Swanning around at Derby Day

Derby Day emerged from the dark skies and puddles like a gorgeous black (and white) swan.

“It’s an elegant day, it’s a smart day and it’s not a nightclub,” Kate Waterhouse, racing royalty remarked, wearing a strapless cream top and tailored pants by Stella McCartney.

Derby Day was the day for classic elegance, and set the pace for the entire week embodying a world of glamour and sophistication with celebrity studded marquees and french champagne aflow.

Among the stars spotted trackside were Hollywood actor Hilary Swank, Aussie screen siren Gracie Otto and Fashion Police host Melissa Rivers.

Reality TV stars were also out in full force with a swag of former The Bachelor cast members, including Tim Robards, Anna Heinreich, Sam Wood each putting their best fashion foot forward

Hollywood actress Hilary Swank turned heads in the Birdcage enclosure,with a black, sheer and sequinned out fit by Aussie designer Christopher Esber​. Swank teamed the stunning sequinned, backless netted top with tailored black pants and a black top hat.

Swank made an exit for the toilet just five minutes into her media commitments in the Swisse marquee, making a run for her own finish line to a quick  payday.Myer darling Jennifer Hawkins wore a cream Alex Perry gown with large cut-out back.

Jessica Gomes​ glowed, also in cream with a voluminous Ellery bell sleeved creation.

Ashley Hart was one of the best dressed fillies, wearing a black and white long sleeve Dolce & Gabbana​ dress with leather appliqué flowers, and a Phillip Treacy​ hat.

The classy Emirates marquee was solidly filled with familiar TV faces from The Bachelorette, The Block and a sprinkle of Melbourne Housewives. The dancing English Beefeater surprised the the crowd with a Magic Mike type vibe.

The most stylish party marquee filled with the glam crowd was G.H.Mumm with a French Alps theme, caviar and superstar DJ David Guetta.

Melissa Rivers, Brad Goreski and Lindy Klim floated around the G.H.Mumm marquee, sampling with guests Maison Mumm’s Collection du Chef de Caves, a rare selection of champagne that features the celebrated Mumm Cordon Rouge Millésimes of 1985, 1990 and 1996 of which there are only a limited number of bottles available in the world. Kate Waterhouse, Erin Lim, Ksenija Lukich, Annabella Barber, Anna Heinrich & Tim Robards, Francesca and Gretel Packer, Pip Edwards and Kerri-Anne Kennerley munched away at the white truffle canapes created by Teage Ezard and licked down Yasa Caviar.

Lindy Klim​ wore an ivory, Grecian-inspired Toni Maticevski​ gown, changing from her heeled white slippers into Adidas shell toes halfway through the day. Melissa Rivers shone sexily in Australian Italian designer Nicola Finnetti.

The daily winner of the hotly-contested Myer Fashions on the Field competition was 22-year-old Courtney Moore in a ladylike, full-skirted black and white dress, complete with Peter Pan collars and a laser-cut skirt.

The dress, which she created with Glen Waverley dressmaker Miss Lynda, was topped with a classic boater hat, which her mother made.
