Mary & Kate: stylish BFFs at Royal Ascot

Our homegrown, Tassie real-life fairytale princess, Mary and her royal mate Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, mirrored immaculate midi style at Royal Ascot last week.

Princess Mary of Denmark embodied trackside vibrancy with an intense orange Marc Jacobs shin grazing midi dress and a dishy oversized floral Jane Taylor hat. She was deep in tete a tete with the gorgeous Duchess of Cambridge for much of the day. Kate glowed in a milky Dolce & Gabbana lace midi dress and also topped off her graceful look with a simple Jane Taylor sculpted headpiece.

All week long the royals descended on the track with  mode de force. Here are some of my imperial favourites and all the fashion deets you need to know.

The Countess of Wessex; the splendid Sophie, wore a teal straw percher with a chevron textured draped brim by milliner of the moment Ms Jane Taylor. Her tidy, tailored aquamarine frock was a bespoke creation by Emilia Wickstead.

Zara Tindall swooped right into the action with a rowdy Mary Katrantzou graphic print shift and a Rosie Olivia ab fab straw turban.

Princess Michael of Kent exuded elegance in a powder blue and grey cape ensemble with a classic Philip Treacy frilly under brim creation.

Princess Beatrice rocked military style topped off with a feathery dome by Sarah Cant on Day 1 at Ascot. She donned a fitted blazer and stripey layered crepe skirt by Hilfiger Collection. The exquisite Aquazzura ankle-lacing pumps amplified her chic uniform. On Day 3, Bea sailed through in a lovely boater by Laura Apsit Livens teamed with a navy macrame midi dress and trumpet sleeves by designer Adeam.

Princess Eugenie sported some similar sisterly stylishness in a colour blocked Roksanda fifties style sheath and a feathery head spray by Jess Collett.

And now for the the grandmamma of the show. On Day 3 the Queen greeted the grandstand in a royal blue coat and orange hat selected by her stylist Angel Kelly. As the crowd serenaded the 90-year old matriach with a Happy Birthday sing-along Lizzy beamed brightly. She opted to forgo her usual matchy matchy hat and dress combo for Ladies Day this year which was delightfully refreshing.
